Hard to believe that it’s been 50 years since I graduated from high school. Doesn’t feel like 50 years. It seems like the other day I was practicing and playing football at St. Mary’s High School. I played the first game on that football field as a freshman and saw the first varsity touchdown by Gary Podesto, who later became Mayor of Stockton. Ran against Eddie Chavez for President of our class and lost. Later I became Junior Class President. He later became Chief of Police and Mayor. But my mother set the course for women on the City Council. She was the second women to serve on the City Council. This was about 20 to 25 years after the first woman served. Later there were more women on the council than men.
Went to the St. Mary’s/Stagg football game. Coached at both schools when I was in Stockton. Hard to believe. St. Mary’s kicked Stagg’s butt. Only a few of the alums were at the game and showed up for the all alum social after the game.
Made business cards for my book, A Warrior’s Son. People were impressed and were anxious to buy my book, so I ended up signing books after the game. The same thing happened the next night at the the official reunion at the country club. This meant I didn’t get a chance to talk to a lot of my old classmates. Made some late sales and couldn’t get them signed at the reunion so met a group of alums at the University Inn for breakfast the next day. Sold four more books.
