I think that happiness comes from being satisfied with the way things are while trying to improve them.
It seems clear after listening to A Beautiful Boy and Tweak (First couple chapters) that none of these people were happy because they were always looking for something better. If they found happiness, they weren’t happy with it. They wanted more and could never find it.
Happiness is a state of mind and one that we can have if we choose. Maybe the problem is that people think they are unhappy when they actually aren’t. I’m dissatisfied with many things in my life, but I don’t think I’m unhappy. There’s a difference between disappointment, regret etc. and not being unhappy.
Like I said, happiness comes from accepting our lives and practicing the Serenity Prayer. Lord give me the courage to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference. Therein lies happiness.
