I get a copy of the Christopher News Notes once a month and came across an old one I hadn’t read. The name of it was Your Own Good. The word Christopher means Christ Bearer.
We all struggle, if we care about people, with loving God and loving our neighbor and loving ourselves. The article said that it’s impossible to love others if we don’t love ourselves, and I think that it’s true.
Be gentle with yourself, learn to love yourself, to forgive yourself, for only as we have the right attitude toward ourselves can we have the right attitude toward others. Wilfred Peterson
I don’t have the slightest idea who Wilfred Peterson is, but it’s a great quote. The News notes say to Think Happy! It is a power that can blast out all defeat and lift a person above all difficult situations. Norman Vincent Peale.
St. Paul said in Galatians 5:14, “The whole law is summed up in a single commandment: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” You notice it doesn’t say to love your neighbor above yourself. And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered that question in the story of the Good Samaritan. It is all men and women and that includes our enemies, that includes Republicans.
Like Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King said, (paraphrased of course) Whatever you do in life, do your best at it. That’s all God can ask. That’s all we should ask of ourselves and in the process make sure we take time out to love and take care of ourselves.
Stephen paraphrased someone who said that by writing you are not taking the time to experience life. I don’t know who said that, but they are a fool. Creating experience from ones imagination is experience. Having someone learn from what you’ve written is a great experience. If it wasn’t for writers and dreamers, we’d still be living in caves.
I hope to have more tomorrow on A Beautiful Boy.
