I was 14 I believe when my father and I were sitting at the table after dinner. There was a can of olive oil on the table. (He loved olive oil and put it on everything even after it was cooked.) It said Lucca, Italy on the can and he pointed to it and said, “this is where your family came from.” It impressed me enough that I’ve never forgotten it and made a point of going to Lucca when I went to Italy. I discovered it’s only about 20 minutes from Pisa.
I was moved to emotion when Stephen and Wendy named their new son Lucca. I am pleased and know my father would be proud and pleased just like me. It’s strange how the world works at times.
So we have a new grandson named Lucca and the name carries all the way back in my mind to when I was 14 and sitting at the table with my dad, who died much too young (52), and he told me that our family came from Lucca.
