I just spent a week at the Santa Barbara Writers’ Conference and have been responding to comments made about the parts of my stories I read. It’s my hope to post there at least five days a week. If you’re interested in writing and have ideas yourself, please go to http://jakesgold.com
The conference wasn’t a top priority when I drove five hours to Santa Barbara, but it was wonderful. Learned a lot and got some good ideas on how to rework my next novel called Consequences.
With regard to politics, I’m pleased Governor Brown vetoed the budget. It’s about time those guys quit trying to hurt kids, old people, and the sick because they don’t want to extend the tax cuts. It’s my hope that Brown has found the solution to getting them off their butts.
Went to the Ronald Reagan Library today. He said some beautiful things, most of which I’m sure were written for him, but he did a great job of delivering the lines. The problem I had was that all during the tour, I kept saying, “What a bunch of bullshit.” Gorbachev was the reason for the end of the Cold War and not Reagan. Just because he said, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” doesn’t mean that’s why he did it. The R’s would love to think that the billions we spent on defense made the difference and drove the Russians to give up. Whoever believes that must also believe there’s a Neverland.
Reagan loved to talk about not saddling our children with debt and then proceeded to triple it from less than a trillion dollars to 3 trillion. Any bozo knows you can’t increase defense spending and cut taxes. Obviously the Republicans don’t know this because that’s what they’ve all done except for Bush Senior. He must be terribly disappointed in his son.
He loved talking about smaller government. I guess he doesn’t think the military is part of the government. He cut regulation and we are now experiencing the results.
Well, I’ll get off my soap box and go write in http://jakesgold.com
