This is a view of the exclusive “privates beach” as taken from my iPhone at low tide.. unfortunately there weren’t any waves to be ridden.
Privates beach is located in Santa Cruz California off Opal Cliffs drive. It is a great longboard spot guarded from the general public by an (impossible to scale) steel fence. In order to access the beach you have to buy a yearly pass from Freeline Surfshop. This will run you about $100 but is pro-rated in the off season. The pass is good from June – June I believe.
I accessed the beach by walking from “The Hook” which you can only do during low tides. There is a small electronic button used to let yourself out once you ascend the stairs so fret not if you walk the shoreline. Just make sure you go when the tide is headed in the right direction.
For years I wondered exactly where this was and I was amazed that no one ever posted pictures. So I am happy to have finally solved this problem. Next up, I need some epic surf shots…
